Techniques Used

We create a treatment plan designed specifically for your needs.

Our therapists are trained in a wide variety of massage and manual therapy techniques. They include but are not limited to the techniques listed below. If you have any questions about a certain technique or therapist, please contact us at (907) 277-5525.

CranialSacral Therapy (CST)

CranialSacral therapy is a form of bodywork using gentle touch to manipulate the synarthrodial joints of the cranium to improve the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and spinal cord. A practitioner of CranialSacral therapy may also apply light touches to a patient's spine and pelvis. CranialSacral can be effective in treating a wide variety of ailments related to the nervous system and is frequently successful in treating migraines, inner ear and vertigo issues, as well as chronic pain and sensory issues.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is an ancient Eastern form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. Cupping may be used therapeutically for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. Sports medicine has recently brought light to cupping use and success in treating athletes.

Active Release Therapy (ART)

ART Sessions are a combination of examination and treatment. The therapist uses their hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. These treatment protocols are unique to ART. They allow therapists to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient.

Kinesis Myofascial Integration Therapy (KMI)

KMI involves thorough structural assessment by the therapist to determine movement patterns and fascial restrictions and performing soft tissue manipulations progressively through the entire body to promote balance, ease, and movement coordination. The therapist will help the client to recognize postural and movement discrepancies through kinesethetic perception, resistive stretching and myofascial release.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This type of therapy attempts to release tension in the fascia due to trauma, posture, or inflammation. Points of restriction in the fascia can place a great deal of pressure on nerves and muscles causing pain. Therapists employ a series of long stretching strokes meant to balance tissue and muscle mechanics and improve joint range of motion. This type of therapy often incorporates Trigger Point Therapy to aid in tissue release.

Manual Lymph Drainage

This gentle therapy aids tissue drainage and encourages lymph flow. Certain health conditions can hinder the movement of lymph which causes a build-up of fluid and can lead to swelling and pain. By manipulating the skin using systemic, rhythmic stretching, an increase of volume and flow of lymph fluid can occur. The main benefits of manual lymph drainage are reduction in edema, inflammation, and pain.  MLD may also aid in the prevention of lymphedema.

Prenatal and Postpartum Massage

Prenatal massage is therapeutic bodywork that focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. Postpartum massage helps the body to realign and cope with the stresses and changes experienced post delivery. It also enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue. Many of the above modalities can be combined into Prenatal and Postpartum massage to achieve these goals.

Pediatric Massage

It is a common misconception that young bodies don't need massage therapy. However, children and teens can get soft tissue injuries too, which can lead to pain and joint discrepancies in their growing bodies. In fact, injuries occurring in youth can lead to compensation pain that may compound into greater issues as the child grows, if left untreated. Pediatric massage involves the manual manipulation of soft tissue intended to promote health and well-being for ages infants through teens in a setting that promotes fun, communication, and a positive experience for the child.

Sports Massage

This type of therapy is a combination of different massage and manual therapy techniques tailored to the specific needs of the athlete and their areas of injury or over use to get them back into their sport or improve performance.

Trigger Point Therapy

A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may produce referral pain in the neck, which then may cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache. This type of therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. The recipient actively participates by identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort.
